Reading: Luke 12:41-48

Then Peter said unto him, “Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?” And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”
As soon as the Lord finishes speaking of the importance of finding us ready when He returns, Peter asks, “What you are saying is for me?”
The Lord’s response leaves no room for doubt; he who is involved in Christ’s service must have a strong commitment to what he is doing. The Lord’s servants must be faithful and prudent.
Faithful, because we must never forget that we are serving God rather than ourselves. We must cling strongly to Him so that we don’t slip. We must be careful of our lives and doctrine. We serve the Lord and seek His Glory (if you haven’t already done it, I recommend that you read the book “Servants for His Glory” by Pastor Miguel Nuñez).
Prudent, because we must remember that He has given us a very great responsability: we are supposed to reflect Him. Everything we do, our words, our expressions, and our actions should show the love, truth, righteousness, and compassion of our God.
Jesus makes an interesting distinction between those who know His will and don’t obey it, and those who perhaps make mistakes because they don’t know it well.
I don’t know about you, but it makes me think about many believers who perhaps don’t have a very healthy or orthodox theology. I pray that the Word would continue to enlighten them and lead them to the Truth of the Gospel by the grace of God. But, without a doubt, there are those who preach in the name of Jesus, but seek their own benefit or interest, taking advantage of people. They will suffer when the Lord comes to bring righteousness.

MEDITATE: Are we faithful and prudent in our service to Christ? Do we seek His glory in all that we do?
