Reading: Luke 4:42-44
And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
After healing the sick and freeing the possessed, Jesus rests and seeks the Father´s fellowship in prayer. But wherever He goes the crowds follow.
Mathew Henry says that, “with Jesus, even a desert becomes a desirable place.”
Even people want to hold Him, probably because of the miracles He performs. Human beings do not desire God, we desire what He can give us, or do for us. But thanks be to Him, who puts in us the desire for His person!
But the Lord cannot stay there, and so He explains to them that their mission is to announce the Kingdom of God in all Judea.
How often do we have this selfish desire to keep Jesus only for ourselves? But what the Lord has taught us is that true blessing is in the sharing.
And in every place, Jesus enters the synagogues, and fulfills the mission he has been given: to announce that the Kingdom of God is among men.
MEDITATE: Do we share Jesus? Do we fulfill the mission he left us?
