Jesus is baptized
Reading: Luke 3:21-22
Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
The mission that John came to fulfill (to call to repentance, to prepare the way for Jesus) has been accomplished. It is time for Jesus to begin His mission.
And the way to do that is to come to John, and be baptized.
And we see the Spirit of the Lord descending like a dove.
And we hear the Father say, this is my Son, in Him I am well pleased.
The Lord Jesus is not just a man who wants to teach and do positive things. He is the Son of God.
And His Mission is the mission of all the Godhead. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Everything Jesus does and says is in obedience to the Father. Nothing is done by Him alone.
The Salvation of men, God’s plan from eternity, is becoming a reality.
MEDITATE: Is there wonder in our hearts as we see the Lord’s perfect plan to save us? Is Jesus an example of obedience for us?
