Reading: Luke 2:39-40
And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
Once again, Luke shows us the humanity and divinity of the Lord contrasted and complete in Jesus.
The child grows up, subject to his parents, in Nazareth, perhaps after having stayed for a time in Bethlehem and having returned from Egypt (as another of the Gospels tells us).
But what is also important is that this Child is more and more full of wisdom (of the Word and Wisdom of Heaven) and the grace of God is evident in his life.
Luke wants to show us that Jesus is a child, in some aspects, an ordinary child, but he is also to be the Savior of us men. He is a special child, he is the Son of God.
MEDITATE: As we read these passages, are we able to understand the nature of this Child? Do we rejoice to know that Jesus is the Perfect Man who will fulfill all the Law, and the Son of God who will give His life in our place?
