COVID-19 brings the darkness of fear, sickness, and death. Now more than ever, we need to shine God’s light. By God’s grace, 516NOW is uniquely situated (Ruth 2:3, Esther 4:14) to provide aid to some of the least of these (Matt 25:35-36) in the form of masks and relief-level food supplies in Nicaragua.
The need in Nicaragua is great. Already the poorest country in Central America, Nicaragua faced severe internal strife in 2018 and has not yet recovered. The pandemic has been largely ignored in Nicaragua and the people are receiving mixed messages. Fear abounds, food is scarce, and the newly escalated cost of masks is prohibitive.
516NOW is taking action in two ways: 1) Masks for families and children and 2) Emergency food relief. Our contacts in the communities we serve have identified these as the greatest needs. Both will be distributed to families in need free and with no strings attached
Protective Masks for families:
Our sewing business in Palacagüina will make protective masks for families we work with and for the community. Masks will cost $1 each to produce and our goal is to provide 2,000 masks in Palacagüina and Diriamba. Your assistance will provide important PPE to families that is otherwise unattainable.
Emergency food relief:
We are partnering with the American Nicaragua Foundation and extending beyond their reach to provide food packages in Palacagüina and Diriamba. Each monthly package costs just $15. Your assistance will provide each family with basic, essential food for three months.
Prayer
Our missionaries in Nicaragua request prayer. Prayer for their country and prayer for an end to the pandemic. Pray for protection. Pray for health. Pray for safety. Pray for peace. Then remember James 2:16 and take action meet the physical needs they have as well.
We know times are tough financially right now, but please consider giving something. Anything will help and will go further in Nicaragua than it would here in the US. Consider giving part of your stimulus package check. Consider forwarding this request on to others who may have the ability to share (Ecc 11:1, Matt 6:4).
